Crazy for Cookies! When your having a cup of tea it is almost felt as a need that you have to have those two chocolate cookies with it. People are so obsessed with these cookies they feel they are a need. As you all are probably aware of the usual needs people will think of is shelter, water, clothes, food and well cookies! How is it that the world has come to such a state that in America alone they consume up to 7 billion cookies per year? That is only one continent and one type of cookie. A bit outrageous if I must say. If you are planning on losing weight I advise that cookies stay off your plan as on average they have 150 kcals per cookie. The worst part of the cookie is all of the unknown sweeteners and additives added in to aid the cookies appearance, smell and taste. The Chocolate Chip Cookie

The Chocolate Chip Cookie Chocolate chip cookies originate from America. It was first made by chefs called Ruth Wakefield and Sue Brides in late 1938. At the time Wakefield owned a popular restaurant in Massachusetts called the Toll House Inn. There are many rumours reporting that she made the cookie accidently and originally thought the chocolate chunks would melt but she stated that she made it with a purpose. When she created it she named it the Toll House cookie.   Pictured right is Ruth Wakefield During WW2 soldiers from Massachusetts brought the 'Toll House Cookies' with them and shared them with other soldiers who were from all over America. Soon soldiers were sending letters to loved ones begging for these 'Toll House Cookies.' This is how the famous idea of the chocolate chip cookie spread. When the cookies began to sell in shops, a copy of Wakefield's famous recipe was pasted on every packet for the whole of America to see. ...

The Fortune Cookie Fortune cookies are a dessert mainly served in Chinese restaurants in America. They are sweet crisp cookies that have a piece of paper on the inside telling you something about your future. For example: " Time heals all wounds. Keep your chin up." They have no connection to China. There are some claims that the famous dessert was first made in Japan in the 19th century, but there are some major differences in there fortune cookies to the American style ones we know. Some of the differences include a different size and different ingredients which make the Japanese ones less sweet and creates a darker dough. The first modern version of the fortune cookie was reportedly served in San Francisco by Makoto Hagiwara who worked in a Japanese restaurant. The cookies were made by a local bakery.
